Ventura County Derby Darlins
Battle for the Coast 2010
Full-contact all-female roller derby tournament
VENTURA, CALIF. (October 13, 2009)— Question: What do you get when you pour 320 women, 640 quad-skates and 160 pairs of fishnet stockings into a warehouse at the Ventura County Fairgrounds?
Answer: The Ventura County Derby Darlins Battle for the Coast 2010, aka, one brutal full-contact roller derby tournament on the rocks; shaken, not stirred.
On May 1 and 2, 2010 roller derby teams spanning the west coast from border to border and beyond will flock to the Ventura County Fairgrounds to participate in the third annual Battle for the Coast flat-track roller derby tournament.
Roller Derby?
You may be asking yourself, “What is women’s flat-track roller derby?” Although, the words “roller derby” may inspire memories from the past, roller derby as we know it today is much different than the managed, co-ed, banked track spectacle we once knew in the 50s, the 70s and even the 80s. The modern revolution of roller derby you can expect to see at the 2010 Battle for the Coast relies entirely on female athleticism, competition, and a punk-rock do-it-yourself attitude. Roller derby is pure sport at its finest with real hits, real injuries, real heart and real hard work. |
You are cordially invited to witness the transformation as the mothers, workers, teachers, and everyday women of Ventura County metamorph into hard-hitting, mouth-guard touting quad-skate speed demons in the epic winner-take-all fight known to derby fans as a roller derby tournament. Don’t miss the details!
